The Menstruation Situation is a program to get young girls better educated about their periods. Did you know that over 5 million grade school-aged girls miss 30+ days of school due to their menstrual cycle? The number of absences is rising rapidly. Around 20% of those 5 million public school girls are going through period poverty. Period poverty is not having access to sanitary products and/or having minimal knowledge of mensuration due to financial status. The Menstruation Situation wants to decrease the number of absences of grade school-aged girls by 75%.
The Menstruation Situation is twice a month after school program that creates a safe space for girls to talk and learn about their periods. With the help of health officials, volunteers, and donations, we hope to send girls that attend our program home with period supply kits for the month. Girls will learn about all the different sanitary products that are out in the world and how to prepare for an unexpected period.
We believe all women can embrace who they are,
can define their future, and can change the world.
To decrease the number of educational absences of grade school-aged girls due to their period.
A future where a young girl's period does not limit her advancement to higher education.
